Getting it Right for Every Child

In Victoria Park Kindergarten we use a GIRFEC approach in the service that we provide for our youngest citizens.   At the heart of GIRFEC is the commitment to ensuring that every child and young person is safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible and included. The commitment underpinning GIRFEC is that no matter where they live or whatever their needs every child and young person can rely on there being a network of support around them to ensure they get the right help at the right time.

We have implemented GIRFEC in many areas of our practice, with staff, parents and children being fully involved in its implementation. Staff have been trained on implementing GIRFEC into practice and are supported regularly to carry it through.

It has been highlighted as a major strength in our practice by our recent inspection by the Care Inspectorate in April 2014

The Child is at the Centre of everything we do.

The wellbeing of children and young people is at the heart of Getting it right for every child. The approach uses eight areas of wellbeing in which children and young people need to progress in order to do well now and in the future. We call these SHANARRI. There are displays in corridors and playrooms that highlight how we meet this in our approach.

These eight areas are set in the context of the ‘four capacities’, which are at the heart of the Curriculum for Excellence.
